UNC School of Medicine’s Marco Patti, MD, is the senior author of an article on burnout in JAMA Surgery

Burnout among physicians is not a new phenomenon, and the UNC School of Medicine is addressing it in various ways, including the Taking Care of Our Own program. Surgeons are not immune. In fact, burnout severity among surgeons is on the rise, according to an American Medical Association report released last year.

Patti is professor of surgery and surgical co-director of the Center for Esophageal Diseases and Swallowing. Co-authors are Francisco Schlottmann, MD, research fellow in gastrointestinal surgery at UNC, and Michael Sarr, MD, at the Mayo Clinic.
