Swasey Stars in The Daily Tar Heel
Judith Swasey, a nurse practitioner in the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and the founder of the Sole Sisters program, was featured in The Daily Tar Heel on October 27 for her efforts to raise breast cancer awareness. Sole Sisters is a 14-week exercise program that culminates with participation in the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, held each June in Raleigh. Founded by Swasey in 2000, the program now involves approximately 100 participants per year. Along with preparing women for the race, it also raises money for breast cancer research and encourages breast cancer survivors and other women to develop a healthy lifestyle.
