Dr. Robert A. Watson, M.B. Ch.B., was born in England and graduated from Leeds University in 1993. From 1993-1998, he underwent postgraduate medical and surgical training in the United Kingdom, obtaining fellowship to the Royal College of Surgeons F.R.C.S (Eng).

From 1998 to 2003, he completed general surgery training at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD, including a clinical attachment to Oxford University. From 2003-2005, he was a clinical transplant fellow at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In 2008 he became Assistant Professor in the Division of Abdominal Transplantation at UNC-Chapel Hill.

He is a member of national and international organizations including the American College of Surgeons, The Royal College of Surgeons, and the American Society of Transplant Surgeons. He is involved in teaching activities at the undergraduate and graduate level at the University of North Carolina and has an active interest in novel techniques in surgical education. Clinically his specialty interests include liver transplantation, renal transplantation, and dialysis access surgery.
