Recently, a Chinese charity, Angel Mom Foundation, partnered with the U.S. based HandReach organization to deliver medical expertise to Beijing, China, for the purpose of treating pediatric patients with hand burn wounds. Two hand surgeons, Dr. C. Scott Hultman, of UNC's Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery; and Dr. Bob Schneider, from the Bethesda Hand Rehabilitation Center in Cincinnati; traveled with four therapists from the U.S. to Beijing from January 11 through the 17th to provide free hand reconstruction to these young burn victims.
This was Hultman’s first trip to China with HandReach, but he hopes to return in the fall.
The team’s efforts were featured on the front page of China Daily, above. In addition, Hultman chronicled his trip in the March issue of Plastic Surgery News (see "Volunteering to help others needs no translation").
