a physician evaluates a patient's hand joints in a medical officeOur expert rheumatologists, allergists and immunologists diagnose and treat a broad spectrum of diseases, including the more than 100 types of arthritis (osteoarthritis, rheumatoid, etc.) as well as the wide range of allergies (food, seasonal, environmental, etc.), and autoimmune diseases (lupus, Sjogren’s, etc.).

The diseases we treat often co-exist with other conditions in multiple organ systems, so it’s essential to consider the various interrelated health concerns of the entire patient. Because we are part of UNC Health Care, a robust and dynamic medical community, we ensure patients receive the best comprehensive care. We consult with colleagues in other Divisions such as Dermatology, Gastroenterology, Hematology, Pulmonary, Nephrology, Geriatrics, and many others.

Our team is also passionate about keeping up with the latest research – learning from current scientific findings, as well as conducting their own. Our clinicians work hand in hand with, and are often a part of, the team of scientists in our leading research center.

The research we conduct better informs our treatment of patients, and the treatment of our patients provides valuable insights and new impetus to our ongoing medical research designed to diagnose, prevent and treat diseases.
