    <content:encoded xmlns:content="http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/content/"><![CDATA[<p>Dr. Hazari was nominated for the 2011 Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers for demonstrating how inhalation of low levels of air pollutants like particulate matter and ozone could increase susceptibility to cardiac events, such as heart attacks. His research is receiving international recognition and is under consideration for inclusion in the update of worldwide standards.</p>
<p>The Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) is the highest honor bestowed by the U.S. government on outstanding science and engineering professionals in the early stages of their independent research careers. The purpose of the award is to encourage the development of science leaders and highlight the importance of science and technology.</p>

    <title>Careers in Toxicology Workshop a Great Success!</title>

    <content:encoded xmlns:content="http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/content/"><![CDATA[<p>The Curriculum in Toxicology welcomed participants from UNC- Chapel Hill, Duke University, NC State University, NC Central University, and East Carolina University to learn about a wide variety of careers in the field of toxicology at the first Careers in Toxicology Workshop. Fifteen speakers with toxicology careers spanning risk assessment to regulatory toxicology to academic research and teaching contributed to the workshop.</p>
<p>Thank you to Dr. Jim Samet, Dr. Marila Cordeiro-Stone, Dr. Ram Ramabhadran, and Dr. Ilona Jaspers for organizing the workshop, and UNC-Chapel Hill, Duke University, NC State University, the North Carolina Biotechnology Center, RTI International, the Hamner Institutes for Health Sciences, the Society of Toxicology, and BASF for sponsoring the workshop.</p>]]></content:encoded>
