Students, post-docs, and investigators from the CiT are investigating potential health effects caused by new and emerging tobacco products as part of the UNC-SOM Center for Tobacco Regulatory Science. To see more http://www.med.unc.edu/tcors-lung/about-us

The UNC School of Medicine Center for Tobacco Regulatory Sciences (TCORS) is headed by Dr Robert Tarran and involves 14 investigators from across the UNC campus. This TCORS is divided into 4 projects and 4 Cores focused on examining the effects of new and emerging tobacco products (NETPs) on the lung’s host defense. Dr Ilona Jaspers is the PI on one of the 4 projects and co-leads the training core with Dr Claire Doerschuk. Other CiT investigators involved in this TCORS are Drs Fry and Randell. In addition, CiT students and post-docs are examining potential lung health effects induced by exposure to these NETPs. For example, Dr Jaime Mirowsky, a CiT post-doc, recently received a TCORS pilot grant examining the effects of Hookah smoking on peripheral blood immune markers.
