Research Interests At Camp Lejeune in North Carolina, marines and their families drank and bathed in water contaminated with high levels of volatile organic chemicals (VOCs). Being one of the worse water contamination sites in the nation, many are concerned about the human health effects of exposure to the contaminating chemicals. Several of these VOCs are known to be human carcinogens but none of these chemicals have been tested for their effects on the developing mammary gland. The objective of my research is to evaluate the role of a mixture of VOCs in mammary gland alterations and the formation of mammary tumors in rats, following human relevant water and inhaled exposures during critical periods of mammary gland development. |
