Research Interests Inhalation of particulate matter (PM) associated with air pollution causes severe effects on cardiac function. PM inhalation is associated with increased mortality due to cardiopulmonary disease including heightened association with ischemic heart disease, dysrhythmias, heart failure, and cardiac arrest. I am interested in investigating this increased cardiac morbidity/mortality following diesel exhaust exposure by using the electrocardiogram as a sensitive endpoint for measuring physiological parameters. Specifically, I am interested in the role that hypoxia plays in influencing cardiac responses to diesel exposure.
