Assistant Professor of Pathology
Gregory Bianchi received his medical degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago, Illinois in 1994, and completed his residency in urologic surgery at the University of Iowa on 2000. During residency he obtained his Masters in Science in Prevention Medicine and Environmental Health with emphasis on urologic cancer epidemiology. After residency, Dr. Bianchi worked in private practice in Davenport, Iowa for five years before completing a fellowship in Endourology, Laparoscopy and Robotic Surgery at the University of Cincinnati in 2006. He then joined the faculty of Duke University Medical Center as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Urology. From 2009 to 2012 Dr. Bianchi completed residency training in Anatomic Pathology at the University of North Carolina. He joined the UNC Department of Urology as an Assistant Professor in 2012 and also holds a joint appointment as an Assistant Professor with the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.
Dr. Bianchi specializes in uropathology, urinary symptoms, kidney stones, benign prostate disorders, no-scalpel vasectomy, and a person-centered approach to general men's health concerns.
Dr. Bianchi’s honors and Awards include the 2012 “Walter L. Lamar Residency Excellence Award” Selected by the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Clinical Faculty at the University of North Carolina Hospitals, Chapel Hill, NC. In 2010, he received "The Robert C. Cefalo, MD, House Officer Excellence Award" for exemplary professional performance and compassionate patient care provided at the University of North Carolina Hospitals. In 2010, he received the "Clinical Pathology Conference Presentations Award" given by the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. University of North Carolina Hospitals. He also received the 1998 "Pfizer Scholars in Urology Award", Department of Urology, University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Iowa City, IA. During medical school he received the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Award in 1993.
Dr. Bianchi loves teaching and is known for his uropathology lectures for medical students and residents at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He also teaches urology and uropathology at national meetings.
