Abram was born in Richmond, VA, but grew up in Forest, Virginia near the Blue Ridge Mountains. After high school, he served several years in the Virginia Army National Guard during which time he was sent overseas twice as part of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. In between these tours, he earned a degree in Biology at the University of Virginia. He later continued his education and obtained a M.D. degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, VA. Upon completion, he was accepted for surgical internship at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC. There he continued with specialty residency training in Urology. He enjoys spending time with his wife and dog, hiking outside and traveling.

Max is a native of Columbus, OH. He graduated from Harvard University with a B.S. in Biology. After graduation he worked for two years in biotechnology and pharmaceutical consulting at Trinity Partners, LLC, in Waltham, MA. He then attended Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, during which time he spent a year performing research at a government hospital on the coast of Kenya. He has since begun his Urology residency at UNC-Chapel Hill, and his plans after completion are not yet decided. He enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters, running, biking, woodworking, and outdoor activities.

Josip was born in Zagreb, Croatia and moved to the United States at the age of three years old. He completed undergraduate, medical school, and a Masters degree in public health at the University of North Carolina. Fluent in Croatian and Spanish, he enjoys playing soccer, guitar, traveling, and cooking in his spare time.

Peter Greene was born in Sacramento, California. He moved to North Carolina as a senior in high school to attend the North Carolina School of the Arts, one of the most prestigious ballet training programs in the country. After high school he spent 5 years dancing professionally in California, New York City and Arizona, where he finished his dancing career performing principal roles in the Nutcracker and other ballets. He then went on to get a degree in biochemistry at UCLA before attending medical school at UC Irvine. While at Irvine he worked closely with his mentor, Dr. Jaime Landman, in urology outreach and new technology research. He is also active in hospital administration participating in the utilization management committee, and as a resident adviser on the new preclinical curriculum for the medical school. He was honored to have been inducted into the Academy of Educators, which seeks to promote and support excellence in teaching at UNC.

Matt was born and raised in Great Falls, Virginia. He graduated from Washington and Lee University Magna Cum Laude in 2009 with a degree in Biology. He also played varsity lacrosse. He graduated from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, VA in 2013. During medical school, his research interests included studying the link between neuronal scaffolding proteins and autism and clinical outcomes related to staged urethroplasty for anterior urethral strictures. He also performed live music with his 90s rock cover band, composed of fellow medical students. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, traveling and playing his guitar.

Sophie was born and raised in Juneau, Alaska. She spent her junior year of high school in Debrecen, Hungary as a Rotary Exchange Student and returned during undergraduate to perform a preceptorship in the Obstetrics-Gynecology Department at the Debrecen University Hospital. She graduated from Dartmouth College with a B.A. in Psychological and Brain Sciences. She then attended the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, WA. During medical school, she spent a year studying prognostic prostate cancer biomarkers in Peter Nelson’s Lab at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. She enjoys spending time with her husband and family, traveling, ethnic food, and walks with her dog, Oskar Wolfgang.
Jason was born in Allentown, PA, and grew up in the vibrant town of Hickory, NC located in the rolling foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. He graduated from The University of Virginia (WA-HOO-WA) in 2010 with a degree in Chemistry. Shortly after graduation, he returned to his home state for medical school, where he would later graduate from The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University in 2014. He then went on to pursue his residency training in urology at UNC Chapel Hill. In his spare time, he enjoys playing golf, spending time outdoors, traveling, and UVA sports.
Matt was born in Richmond, VA, and grew up in Virginia. He went to the University of Virginia for his undergraduate studies, and to Virginia Commonwealth University for his Masters degree in Microbiology & Immunology. He also completed his MD degree at Virginia Commonwealth University.
His wife, Shannon Macey, works for the law firm Hunton & Williams LLP. They have enjoyed living in Chapel Hill and recently just purchased a new house in Durham, NC, about which they are very excited.
Matt is currently interested in multiple Urology subspecialties, including endourology, general urology, and infertility. He is still early in his clinical training and is keeping an open mind to any and all fields. Besides his love for medicine & science, Matt also majored in music during his undergraduate days and loves playing and listening to blues guitar among almost all other genres of music. He and Shannon are also avid enthusiasts of the arts as well as NFL football.
He was born and raised in Silver Spring, MD just outside of Washington, D.C. Wanting to explore a big city, he moved to Philadelphia to attend Penn for college where he majored in Economics and minored in Biological Basis of Behavior. After college, he worked as clinical research coordinator at Penn before enrolling at the University of Virginia for medical school. He lives with his wife, who is a pediatrics resident at UNC, and his dog Tank. In his free time, he enjoys being outdoors, trying new restaurants in the Triangle, and is an avid DC sports fan.
Pauline is a born and raised California girl. She graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of science in Human Biology and minor in Public Health from the University of California, San Diego. Following college, she spent three years teaching 7th grade life science in the Oakland Unified public school district. Though her love of teaching never waned, she decided a career in medicine was a better fit, and attended the University of California, San Francisco for medical school.
Her research during medical school focused on the use of active surveillance in low risk prostate cancer, as well as the role of simulation in urologic surgical education. She hopes to continue pursuing these research interests during her training at UNC.
Ben was born in Frederick, MD, but was raised in Shepherdstown, WV, a small college town on the Potomac River. He attended West Virginia University where he studied biology and was the captain of the crew team. After graduating from WVU, Ben deferred matriculation at Vanderbilt University to volunteer and backpack through Central and South America. As a West Virginian in Nashville, he was forced to learn the banjo.
Gopal was born in Washington, DC and raised in the small suburb of Rockville, Maryland. He attended the University of Maryland at College Park where he graduated cum laude with a degree in Biochemistry. After graduating, Gopal spent six months volunteering in South Sudan at an orphanage and rural hospital. This experience solidified his passion for medicine and his love for people. He attended the University of Maryland, School of Medicine where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. In his free time, Gopal enjoys spending time with his wife, hiking and cheering on the Maryland Terrapins.
Brandon was born in Concord, North Carolina to a military family. Who emphasized work ethic, compassion and humility. He earned a degree in Biology at UNC Chapel Hill. He then continued his education and obtained a M.D. Degree on a scholarship in the Navy at the Virginia Commonwealth School of Medicine. Upon completion, he was accepted for surgical internship at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC. There he continued with specialty residency training in Urology. He enjoys playing sports, backpacking and other various outdoor activities.
Kathryn who prefers to be called Kate was born in Bethesda, Maryland. She received a bachelors in Genetics, Cell and Development Biology from Dartmouth College. She then obtained a M.D. Degree from UNC Chapel Hill. Upon completion, she was accepted for surgical internship at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC. There she continued with specialty residency training in Urology. She enjoys cooking, running marathons, road biking, sailing, spending time with family and friends, and walking her dog Murphy.
Case was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Case received a degree in Business Economics from Wofford College. He then continued his education and obtained a M.D. Degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. Case enjoys fishing, golfing, grilling, home brewing, scuba diving, playing soccer and spending time with his wife Stephanie.
