Angela Smith, MD, MS, Receives Funding For Readmission Reduction Project

Angela B. Smith, MD, MSUNC Urology Assistant Professor Angela Smith, MD, MS, recently received funding from the NC Cancer Hospital Endowment Fund for her project titled, "Phone-Based Intervention for Reducing Readmissions." The central hypothesis of Dr. Smith's proposal is that a significant proportion of radical cystectomy readmissions for bladder cancer are triggered by preventable causes; and that these causes can be reversed through a phone-based intervention which identifies early symptoms and facilitates outpatient care before the need for readmission arises. To address this issue, Dr. Smith's project involves implementing a phone-based intervention to reduce the complexity of readmissions and increase post-operative patient satisfaction.
