Joshua Langston, MD

PGY5 Chief Resident

Josh is originally from Texas and comes from a family of high school football coaches. He received his undergraduate degree from Texas A&M University and his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. While in medical school he was the co-founder of a student-run free medical clinic which continues to run successfully, now in its eighth year. Here at UNC he has had the distinction of serving as Co-President of the House Staff Council, and was a member of the inaugural resident class inducted into the UNC Medical School Academy of Educators. He currently serves as a resident member of the UNC Medical Center Improvement Council, where he has contributed to several initiatives addressing quality improvement and patient safety. His primary research interest is the intersection of clinical care, health policy, and market economics, with additional interest in surgical quality improvement. In 2013 he received the American College of Surgeons Leadership & Advocacy Award for health policy advocacy efforts in Washington DC, and this year was chosen as plenary keynote speaker for the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine regional conference to speak on the future of leadership in medicine. After graduation, he will enter a fellowship in Urologic Reconstruction and Men’s Health at the Institute of Urology in London, England. He enjoys spending time with his wife Melanie, a physician assistant at Duke, and his daughter Emery Grace.
