The Vironomics core is designed to facilitate research at UNC by performing large-scale Real Time PCR reactions and next generation sequencing using: Roche 454 GS Junior, Ion Torrent PGM, and Ion Torrent S5. A Tecan Freedom Evo© is used to set up reactions in a 384-well plate, which is then directly run by the Roche LightCycler 480 II©. This is a fast and effective way to amplify samples with RT-qPCR. The GS Junior System brings the power of 454 Sequencing technology directly to the research laboratory bench top. The same proven long-read sequencing performance as the Genome Sequencer FLX System is scaled to suit the needs of individual labs. The Ion Torrent PGM and S5 sequencing technology provides quick run time and greater number of reads. The Ion Torrent sequencers will soon be integrated into the Ion Chef system, which automates library to chip loading for the sequencers. Quickly proceed from DNA to data to discovery with a simple sample preparation workflow, overnight sequencing and data processing, and a dedicated suite of data analysis software.
