School of Medicine Web Redesign Project

Timelines

  • January 2008

OIS began meeting with "early adopter" departments/centers/programs to discuss integrating existing sites into the new system.
  • March 2008
OIS began working with all other departments about the new system and standards.
Note: The new School of Medicine system/site is available to ALL School of Medicine organizations including departments, divisions, programs, centers, student organizations, and labs.  You do not need to wait for OIS to contact you to become part of the system. If you are ready to get started, please contact webhelp@med.unc.edu to set up an appointment.

About the Project

At the end of 2007, UNC School of Medicine and UNC Health Care launched new web sites with a coordinated look and feel.  The purpose of this project is to provide a common and branded identity throughout the sites, focusing on providing information to external audiences (for the School of Medicine, this includes prospective students, faculty, clinicians, researchers, and professional peers).

New Web Site Advantages

  • Content Management System: Cutting Edge Technology

Departments, centers, programs, and offices will have the opportunity to take advantage of cutting edge technology offered by our customized Content Management System (CMS).  The CMS will enable organizations to easily update web content using a simple web form and to utilize dynamic calendars, news, events, and search tools.  For more information about various components, take a look at ‘Features’.
  • Professional design for the School and your organization

Our talented designers have worked hard to make sure the overall site design is highly competitive with other academic medical institutions.  The Office of Information Systems (OIS) will help you set up your site in the new system and provide you with a customized homepage graphic to ensure your site continues the School’s professional look and feel.
  • Opportunities to establish your own identity

Although we are striving for a consistent look throughout our sites, we’ve also recognized the importance for departments, centers and programs to establish their own identities.  The new web site will enable organizations to customize various design components to address their audience needs. See our departmental design prototype for more information!
  • W3C and ADA 508 Compliant

Ever wondered how to make your site more accessible to all users? Whether the user has a visual disability and/or a slow internet speed connection, we believe it’s important that everyone have equal access to the information throughout our site.  To that end, we are striving to create an accessible site that is ADA 508 compliant and meets W3C Priority 1 requirements.
