Sharing

Sharing is allowing specific users to have access to content you own, or content that has been shared with you.

Overview

  • Sharing doesn’t imply ownership unless you specify it in a local role (example below).

  • You can share individual items (file, page, etc.), or an entire folder.

Upon visiting the sharing tab for a piece of owned or shared content, you will see an assigned roles table like the following:

AssignedRoles.jpg
  • Name: A user who currently has sharing permissions for the item. By default, whoever created the folder/item will be listed here.
  • Type: Specifies whether the name is associated with a group or individual user.
  • Inherited Role: When a folder is shared, everything contained in that folder (i.e., other folders, pages, etc.) is automatically shared as well. If you don’t want a nested folder or item to have this inheritance, go to the sharing tab for said content and deselect “Advanced: Inherit roles from higher levels”.
  • Local Role: Shows the local role for the selected user. If you want a content creator to have manager permissions, you can set the local role to manager. In that case, the content creator will have the same capabilities as a manager for that item or folder.

Advanced Settings

"Inherit roles from higher levels" is currently checked by default. This means that users with a role in the container (folder that contains the object) will have the same role for this folder/item.

Change Ownership

Gives you the ability to transfer the ownership of an item/folder to someone else.
