The Loyalty Fund

Dear Medical Alumni,

With a new academic year already underway, I am pleased to take a brief look back and share with you results for the Loyalty Fund in the 2011-2012 year. My deepest thanks go to those of you who made a gift last year. Please click here to view the 2011-2012 Honor Roll of donors.

Additionally, I would be remiss if I did not thank Dr. Bud Harper `60 for his 13 years of service in this role of Associate Dean for Medical Alumni Affairs. I hope I am able to bring as much success and esteem to the position as he did.

The UNC School of Medicine Class of 2016 just began classes, and they are as impressive a group of students as we've ever had here in Chapel Hill. The entering class is comprised of 180 students with average MCAT scores of 32.65 and average undergraduate GPA of 3.65. Beyond the numbers, however, they are a fantastic group of eager learners, and we should all look forward to counting them among our ranks.

Just as impressive was the resounding support alumni gave to the Loyalty Fund last year. In total, 1,587 School of Medicine alumni gave $863,281 to provide for the education of tomorrow's physicians. I encourage you to delve a bit deeper into those numbers by taking a look at the "info-graphics" below. Thank you again for your generosity, and I hope to see you in Chapel Hill soon!

With Best Wishes,

Wesley C. "Butch" Fowler Jr., M.D. `66
Associate Dean for Medical
