Learning Objectives: Fourth-year medical students interested in surgically-oriented residencies may obtain advanced anatomical knowledge of a body region of interest.


Block 5 (Oct 27 - Nov 21)
Students with the following anticipated residencies may focus on the body regions in parentheses: surgery (thorax, abdomen and pelvis); obstetrics and gynecology (abdomen and pelvis); orthopedic surgery (limbs); urology (abdomen and pelvis); anesthesiology (all body regions excluding head and neck); radiology (all body regions excluding head and neck); neurology (all body regions excluding head and neck); emergency medicine (all body regions excluding head and neck; and others by request.


Block 6 (Nov 24 - Dec 19)
Students with the following anticipated residencies may focus on the head and neck regions: otolaryngology (ENT); ophthalmology; neurosurgery; anesthesiology; radiology; neurology; and others by request.
Learning Activities: 1. Dissect a region of interest for presentation to faculty/MS1's
2. Assist in the laboratory instruction of MS1's
3. Gain advanced knowledge of pertinent embryology and radiology
4. Practice surgical procedures on a cadaver
5. Observe surgical procedures
Evaluation: 1. Presentation of dissection
2. Participation as laboratory instructor
3. Participation in clinical activities (if any)
