The Sonja Haynes Stone Center for Black History and Culture, a new 44,500-square-foot building, opened in 2004. The late Sonja Haynes Stone was director of UNC-Chapel Hill's African and Afro-American Studies curriculum from 1974 to 1979. She was an associate professor at UNC-Chapel Hill until her death in 1991. The building houses the staff of the Stone Center, seminar rooms, classrooms, a 10,000-volume lending library, a computer classroom, art gallery and museum, 360-seat auditorium, a multipurpose room, a dance studio, several office suites, single offices and space for visiting scholars/artists.

Meeting participants planning to fly into the Chapel Hill area should arrange flights into Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU), which is served by most major domestic carriers and is located approximately 20 minutes' driving time east of Chapel Hill, on Interstate 40. Airport shuttle service to/from Chapel Hill can be arranged through RDU Airport Transportation Services, and all major rental car agencies serve the RDU Airport as well.

Visitor parking remains to be determined, although Summer school will be in session along with other campus activities.
