Division of General Medicine & Clinical Epidemiology

General Medicine Research

Researchers in the UNC Division of General Internal Medicine are nationally and internationally recognized for their work in clinical epidemiology, health services research, clinical decision-making research, disparities research, and prevention.  Clinical areas of expertise include heart disease prevention, care of vulnerable patients with chronic conditions, and HIV care.

Division researchers have successfully competed for funding from a wide variety of sources including the National Institute of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and a variety of foundations. Division members collaborate with a wide range of colleagues here at UNC and beyond. Local partnerships with the UNC Cecil Sheps Center for Health Services Research, Lineberger Cancer Center, and the UNC Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, as well as the UNC School of Public Health provide a strong infrastructure for multidisciplinary collaborations. The Division also provides research training through the NRSA Primary Care Research Fellowship and the UNC Clinical Research Training Program.
