the Board of Governors of the University of North Carolina have established the
Center for HIV/STDs and Infectious Disease at the Chapel Hill Campus (The Center

Lillian Brown is an MD epidemiology PhD student at UNC who will be working in Malawi this year on a randomized study of different methods of contact tracing and Jon Samuel is a surgical resident at UNC who will be conducting a comparative study of burn patients with and without HIV infection and the impact on various immunologic factors.

The Center For Infectious Diseases includes 13 different research programs or centers, addressing HIV (behavioral prevention, vaccines, and treatment), STIs, microbicides, and biodefense and emerging infections.
