The Health Sciences Library

The Health Sciences Library is a valuable resource located in close proximity to patient care areas. Its collection of more than 220,000 volumes includes more than 4,000 subscriptions to current serial titles. Since the library serves five health professional schools its scope of biomedical and health-related subjects is unusually broad. The library's staff provides a full range of information services; help in locating factual and bibliographic information, online search services include MEDLINE, audiovisual and microcomputer services and a variety of instrumental programs to assist health professional in the management to information. The building itself is a new well-equipped center providing 101 hours of service weekly.

The annual Statistics of Medical School Libraries in the united States and Canada ranked UNC's Health Sciences Library as the seventh "largest and most active" based on a composite of key statistics. Its collection is the second largest of academic health sciences libraries in the south.
 
 

John C. Parker Medicine House Staff Library

The Department of Medicine also has a library of major medical textbooks and key journals. On-line electronic medical records and literature searching are available as well as Scientific American on CD-ROM. Each resident receives a key to the library for 24-hour access.

Many information data bases can be accessed through our website.  These include a UNC series of critically appraised topics, the Cochrane collaboration, summaries of residents reports and conferences, journals, and medical texts.
