Wake Medical Center Medicine
Teaching Service


 
 

 

The experience of the department's house staff is complemented by working at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh, NC. Wake Medical center is a 560 bed hospital which admits patients with a variety of acute Internal Medicine problems. The inpatient service is comprised of four internal medicine ward teams. A typical team includes a resident, intern, acting intern, and third year medical students. Interns spend 1-2 months on the inpatient service, second year residents spend 1 month on the inpatient service, and third year residents may elect to do the inpatient service/consult service. 

Wake Medical Center also has an outpatient clinic rotation available to second and third year residents. Residents see patients after hospital discharge or for ER follow-up. Additionally, house officers participate in subspecialty clinics. The Wake County Department of Health is adjacent to Wake Medical Center. Second and third year residents may select an outpatient rotation in the STD clinic at this facility.

Faculty members are committed to quality teaching. The faculty are comprised of full-time UNC faculty including a chief resident, supplemented by volunteer clinical faculty from the community On average, there are two educational conferences each day.

The ride to Raleigh takes approximately 40 minutes from Chapel Hill.
