W. Craig Fowler, M.D.

Professional Background:
Dr. Fowler has extensive laser training and previously served as
the associate/medical director of the FEL Laser Laboratory at Duke
University Medical Center as well as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology
at Duke University Eye Center 1992-2000. He has been awarded Best
Doctors honors by Best Doctors 2000-2001, 2002-2003, 2003-2004,
2004-2005 and U.S. Top Ophthalmologists award by the Research Council
of America 2002 and 2004 (given every two years). His research centers
around laser-related wound healing. He is actively involved with
eye banking on a national and international training level and is
the Medical Director of the North Carolina Eye Bank. He serves as
the physician chair of faculty, technician education, EBAA (Eye
Bank Association of America). Dr. Fowler enjoys educating his patients
and takes pride in delivering the best patient care possible. The
UNC Eye Department welcomes sponsorship of his international mission
work as well as his research. Dr. Fowler specializes in corneal
transplantation, cataract surgery, and the latest advances in vision
correction surgery. He also treats anterior segment surgical complications
as well as complex anterior segment diseases and dry eye. He sees
referrals from ophthalmologists, optometrists, healthcare professionals,
and conventionally scheduled UNC healthcare systems patients.
