Students on the Orthopaedic Service are expected to attend all regular conferences held for orthopaedic residents with the exception of the Wednesday kindergarten sessions. Please see the Biweekly Schedule on the Bulletin Board in the Brashear Learning Center for a current list.
In addition, there are other conferences specifically for students:
MSIII lectures:
Third year students rotating on the Surgery clerkship receive formal lectures from each subspecialty. Orthopaedic faculty present these topics to each clerkship block:
- Tumors and Infections of Bones
- Injuries and Disorders of the Spine
- Disorders of the Upper Limb
- Injuries and Disorders of the Lower Limb
Clinical Seminars for 3rd & 4th year students on Orthopaedics:
Third year students rotating on the Orthopaedic Service and 4th year students doing precepteeships receive these lectures from Orthopaedic faculty, or from practitioners in the area who have clinical appointments.

- Physical Exam of Wrist & Hand
- Physical Exam of Shoulder & Elbow
- Physical Exam of the Spine (Prior to the physical examination session, please review and learn the chapter entitled "Anatomy of the Back (.pdf file)," with particular attention to neuroanatomy on Table 1. A working knowledge of the anatomy is required to perform an effective and efficient physical examination of the spine.)
