Predictors of health status outcomes in rheumatic diseases, including mortality, functional status, psychological consequences, and work disability. Many of her studies have focused on rheumatoid arthritis (RA), but she has also evaluated outcomes in systemic lupus erythematosus, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, and other conditions. Assessing the role of the patient in long-term health status outcomes. Associations between socioeconomic status and health status outcomes.

Dr. Callahan is the principal investigator of a study on self-management, education and outcomes in RA and she is co-investigator of a study on joint inflammation, damage and outcomes over five and ten years in RA.
