Overview of Wake AHEC:

Wake Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Orthopaedics is a hospital-based orthopaedic program which offers expertise in the management of patients sustaining orthopaedic trauma, as well as those with a wide variety of general orthopaedic conditions. The service is staffed by attending orthopaedists who have faculty appointments at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and who devote substantial time to resident education. Although each attending is fully trained in general orthopaedics, the special interest and expertise at WakeMed is the management and reconstruction of orthopaedic trauma. The service is supplemented by orthopaedic residents from UNC, enabling the service to provide in-hospital physician coverage 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Located on the campus of one of the state's busiest trauma centers, WakeMed, this rotation is an invaluable experience for residents.
