Our new facilities in the Ambulatory Care Center are open! We welcome referring physicians and community members to our Grand Opening on May 31 from 5:00-7:00pm. Dr. Paul Lachiewicz, a member of our Adult Reconstruction team, knows that there is interest in the recent reports about hip resurfacing as an alternative to total hip replacement. Read his article in the April 19 edition of the Raleigh News and Observer, where he discusses if this procedure is right for you. UNC Orthopaedics is pleased to announce our new partnership with Set-Up, Inc, to be a major sponsor this year of the North Carolina Triathlon Series. Some of our doctors will be available at each event to meet the participants and discuss all of our services. We are offering the UNC Triathlete Health and Fitness Survey to triathletes of all levels participating in any races of the 2006 North Carolina Triathlon Series or the Endurance Development Series. The survey is part of a research study to understand the frequency and causes of injury in triathletes, as well as to guide possible strategies for prevention of those injuries in the future. Special thanks to Set-up, Inc, and Endurance Magazine for survey promotional support. ESWT: What is it? Extracorporeal shock wave therapy, or ESWT, is an innovative non-surgical technique developed for the treatment of localized musculoskeletal pain. It is particularly effective for chronic tendinitis of the shoulder, elbow, knee, and foot. Drs. Alex Creighton, Douglas Dirschl, and Jay Keener are accepting patients who may benefit from this new procedure; here is more information. |
