The AP Core provides access to UNC Hospitals repository of human tissue samples, given appropriate IRB and HIPAA approvals. The Core provides microtomy services and subsequent routine and immunohistochemical stains on these archival tissue sections. In addition to standard paraffin block histology, the Core provides for the construction, staining, and imaging of Tissue Microarrays.

All projects supported by the AP Core must have IRB approval and be HIPAA compliant. Information on this can be obtained at http://www.med.unc.edu/irb/ .

To utilize the AP Core services, investigators must download and complete the User's Packet and then submit the completed packet to the UNC Division of Surgical Pathology, Rm. 30149, Women & Children's Hospital (phone 843-4176) .

Current studies with additional requests: Necessary paperwork includes only the Request for Services form.

It is strongly recommended that the AP Core be accessed through a collaborative arrangement with a faculty member in the Division of Surgical Pathology . Dr. Leigh Thorne, Co-Director, should be your first contact (lthorne@unch.unc.edu), and can help you to identify a collaborator as needed.
