Department of Physical Medicine
and Rehabilitation

We serve individuals with permanent or temporary injuries due to neurologic events, accidents, or illness. The PM&R team, comprised of doctors, nurses, therapists, and rehab psychologists, collaborates and communicates with patients and families to maximize the functional abilities of people with disabilities.

Our department provides a continuum of care, with outpatient clinics, consultation services, and rehabilitation programs. Inpatient rehabilitation offers a range of services including cardiac, cancer, pulmonary, neurologic, musculoskeletal, and general medical rehabilitation.

Our 30 bed state-of-the-art inpatient unit opened in the fall of 2003. Located on the 7th floor of NC Memorial Hospital, it offers private and semi-private rooms, as well as larger therapy areas.

In addition to providing excellent patient care, the department has an outstanding residency program, offering clinical and research opportunities in public and private settings. Residents gain a comprehensive understanding of the field through lectures, discussions, observation, and on-the-job experience. Graduates from approved medical schools are invited to apply.
