Dr. Mauricio Castillo is a Professor of Radiology at the UNC-Chapel Hill and a Fellow of the American College of Radiology. His research areas of interest include pediatric brain and spine imaging and the application of new imaging techniques. Dr. Castillo is the author of over 400 original and invited presentations. His editorial responsibilities include: Associate Editor for Neuroradiology for the American Journal of Roentgenology and Consulting Editor for the Neuro-Imaging Clinics of North America. He is on the board of five other journals and acts as a reviewer for numerous publications. Formerly the Senior Editor of The American Journal of Neuroradiology, he was named it’s Editor-in-Chief in June 2007.
Dr. Castillo has held several prominent positions in the ASNR as well as being a member of their Executive, Public Relations, Program Directors and Research Committees. He is a founding member of the American Society of Pediatric Neuroradiology (ASPNR) and has served as Chair of their Research Committee and on their Education Committee. In the American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS), he has been active in the Research, Program and Membership Committees, as well as serving as the Secretary and Treasurer.
Dr. Castillo has coordinated the Neuroradiology Instructional Courses for their annual meeting since 2000 and was a Co-Director for its Categorical Course in 2003. He serves on the Publications Committee of the American Society of Head & Neck Radiology (ASHNR), which awarded Dr. Castillo the Figley Fellowship, as well as an AFIP Visiting Scientist position. Dr. Castillo’s exceptional efforts have resulted in his recently being awarded the Charles A. Bream Award for teaching excellence by the UNC School of Medicine’s graduating residents, class of 2007.
