Dr. McCartney is a Professor of Radiology and Section Chief of Nuclear Medicine. He is certified by the American Board of Nuclear Medicine and the American Board of Radiology. In addition, he is a member and fellow of numerous societies, including the American College of Radiology, the Radiological Society of North America, Association of University Radiologists, Society of Nuclear Medicine (SNM), American College of Nuclear Physicians (ACNP) and Society of Chiefs of Academic Nuclear Medicine Sections, among others. He has served as President of the ACNP and of the Southeastern Chapter, SNM. He has published numerous articles in refereed journals; his research interests include PET imaging, SPECT imaging, diagnosis of pulmonary embolus, effects of surgery on gallbladder function, and neuroreceptor imaging. In addition, he has more than 30 years of experience in training and supervising residents and fellows in the Nuclear Medicine and Radiology programs.
