Breast Imaging

The UNC Department of Radiology offers a one-year fellowship in Breast Imaging. This appointment also may be combined with CT, US or MRI, depending on the availability of those rotations. We read approximately 80-100 mammograms per day, divided into about 20% screening and 80% problem-solving. We also perform breast MRI. All examinations read by the fellow are re-read by the attending prior to the issuance of the final report. We perform many sonographic, stereotactic and MRI core biopsies. Our section has two US units which are utilized in the work-up of breast lesions. There are currently four faculty members who do mammography. To be eligible for consideration, a fellowship candidate must have completed an accredited residency in Diagnostic Radiology and be board-eligible or board-certified at the time of the fellowship appointment.In order to be considered for the Breast Imaging fellowship, applicants will need to send their curriculum vitae and three letters of recommendation, including one letter from their residency program director, to:
