  • Reduced-rate lodging and transportation:  After your consultation visit and before your UNC radiotherapy treatments, you qualify to stay at the Holiday Inn in Chapel Hill at a reduced rates based on a financial-need sliding scale.  The exact daily charge is determined in consultation with our Departmental social worker.  Transportation to and from our clinic is provided by the Holiday Inn shuttle several times per day.
  • Meal tickets:  Our patients can eat at the Holiday Inn for free!  (This is for patients only, not for accompanying family members.)
  • Free 1-hour clinic parking:  For our outpatients treated daily, we supply one-hour permits for parking directly in front of UNC Hospitals.  On your "Status Check" day, please ask to park in the regular parking deck instead because your visit may exceed an hour.

  • Dedicated social worker:  Social workers assist our patients with making all the logistical arrangements for their care.
  • Interpreters:  Interpreters are available to our patients to help overcome language barriers.
  • Pastoral care and a chapel:  Available for patient spiritual support.
  • Nutritional care:  A nutritionist is available to assist our patients with their dietary needs during treatment.

For additional information about these patient resources, please ask your radiation oncology nurse.

Cancer Support Programs

Many other cancer support programs are available to our patients through the UNC Oncology Patient and Family Resource Center.  This Center is conveniently located next to the Radiation Oncology waiting area on the ground floor of the North Carolina Clinical Cancer Center (Gravely Building).  Tina Shaban, a certified oncology nurse, and Pam Baker, a cancer survivor, have developed unique programs that help support our patients and their families throughout their cancer experience.
