Geriatric Education Center Coordinator, Center for Aging and Health

The Carolina Geriatric Education Center Consortium (CGEC) seeks to improve the health of North Carolina’s older adults through the provision of geriatrics education that addresses effective and culturally competent care for the state’s increasingly diverse older adult populations. With leadership from the Center for Aging and Health (CAH) at the School of Medicine, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC), CGEC has served North Carolina since 1999, combining the resources of North Carolina’s flagship public institution with that of clinical and educational partners across the state. Partners based at UNC include the Institute on Aging; the North Carolina Area Health Education Center Program ( Central AHEC); and the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Social Work, and Public Health. Consortium members across North Carolina include Charlotte Area Health Education Center (Charlotte AHEC); Wake AHEC; Eastern AHEC; and Mountain AHEC. New consortium members are Northwest AHEC; Piedmont Health Services, Inc. and Greensboro AHEC. CGEC will train health professionals and professionals in training from more than four disciplines: nursing, medicine, pharmacy, social work, dentistry, dental hygiene, health administration, psychology, rehabilitation counseling, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech and language pathology, medical technology, health administration, health education, recreation therapy, and nutrition.
In the Center for Aging and Health (CAH), the Carolina Geriatric Education Center (CGEC) this position coordinates overall project activities; oversees and contributes to the development, testing and dissemination of educational curriculum and training materials; plans and manages conferences; builds project teams and supports their activities to accomplish overall project goals and objectives; and conducts project evaluations and prepares reports to the consortium and to the funding agency.
Principal Functions
Manages day to day operations of the CGEC in collaboration with the Program Director and Associate Program Directors. Responsible for managing the project time line, communications, development and dissemination of project deliverables. The three major deliverables which have seven program objectives are: Curriculum Development and Dissemination; Training Support (Recruitment and Site Development); and Training (Faculty Development, Clinical Training, Fellowship Training, and Continuing Education). Responsible for the administrative and logistical duties of the grant which includes preparing handouts and reports, and organizing internal and consortium meetings. Represents the CAH as a liaison between the CGEC and health professions schools at UNC, other consortium members, and the funding agency.
Oversees and contributes to the development, testing and dissemination of educational curriculum and training materials. Conduct literature reviews, write content, edit the faculty educational product and expertise content. Translate content into appropriate instructional formats and medium such as the School of Medicine Website, CAH Website and other affiliated organization and agency websites, as well as CD's. Consult with affiliated curriculum development teams and web developers to assure consistency and standardization of disseminated materials. Presents findings at scientific conferences and to participating agencies.
Oversees and manages all aspects of data collection and analysis for project evaluation and reporting to the consortium and to funding sources. Responsible for writing progress reports.
Responsible for assisting the Principle Investigators with building project teams and supporting their activities to accomplish overall project goals and objectives.
Plans and manages conferences and other training events.
Education Requirements:
Masters Degree in Public Health, or Psychology, or Social Work is required.
Qualifications and Experience Requirements:
Five years work experience as a project manager. Considerable knowledge of managing or running a grant, as well as knowledge of instructional development, aging, and administrative practices. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, excellent judgment, decision making ability and ability to exercise discretion when dealing with top-level, confidential, and priority information. Ability to work independently with a minimum of direction. Skill in effective planning, priortiization and organization of workload. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with community, staff and faculty. Excellent public relations skills.
Salary Range :
$45,000 to $55,000
