Health Care & Prevention MPH Program
The Health Care & Prevention (HC&P) Program is an MPH program designed specifically for medical professionals - clinicians, other health care professionals and medical students. The program is a joint effort between the School of Medicine and the School of Public Health and serves to bring together the clinical and population perspectives of health care to best serve the health of the public. This program is for those who have a clinical perspective but wish to expand their thinking to include an evidence-based population perspective, and to gain the skills required to use both in their work.
Graduates of the HC&P Program, will have the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue a variety of career paths:
the
clinical-leader career path- serving primarily as a practicing clinician
but with a broader perspective, perhaps chairing a quality assurance committee
or providing leadership in some specific area of health care.
the
clinical management-leader career path- serving as a Medical Director
of a group practice or managed care plan.
the
clinical researcher-leader path- serving as a researcher either in the
academic setting or in a large clinical practice/HMO setting, including
those interested in health services research.

The Program includes the following core courses designed specfically for this program:
Clinical
Epidemiology
Critical
Appraisal of the Medical Literature
Organization
and Financing of the U.S. Health Care System
Quantitative
Methods for Health Care Researchers
Strategies
of Prevention for Clinicians
A Master's paper and practicum experience are requirements of this Program. Thirty-nine hours are needed to complete the Program. This can be completed in 12 months or spread out over a longer period of time. The MPH degree is awarded through the Public Health Leadership Program in the School of Public Health.
