NC Health Careers 2008-2010
The NC AHEC Program is pleased to announce the publication of NC Health Careers 2008-2010, the eighth edition of our award-winning health careers manual. Since 1989, the NC AHEC Program has produced this manual in order to provide the latest information about educational requirements for health careers, North Carolina schools offering degree programs in the health fields, information on financial aid and scholarships, and much more. In every listing of the hottest jobs in the U.S. over the next decade, jobs in the health field are expected to grow the fastest.
In addition, the eighth edition features an in-depth look at seven health care professionals who work in a variety of occupations and settings around the state. They include a hospital administrator in Kings Mountain (Cleveland County), a physician assistant in Waynesville (Haywood County), a plastic and reconstructive surgeon in Charlotte (Mecklenburg County), a licensed professional counselor in Wilmington (New Hanover County), a school nurse in Carrboro (Orange County), an EMT/paramedic in Raleigh (Wake County), and a certified athletic trainer in Huntersville (Mecklenburg County). Each of these working professionals offers helpful nuggets of advice for individuals considering entering a health career.
In June, 56,100 copies of this manual were printed and distributed across North Carolina to state legislators, all nine regional AHECs and the Duke AHEC office, middle and high schools, community colleges, university careers services and counseling offices, public and academic libraries, AHEC programs across the country, and a variety of other settings where both young people and adults may use the resources as an effective tool for exploring their options for careers in the health fields.
The manual will soon be featured on the North Carolina Health Careers Web site. We invite you to visit it at www.nchealthcareers.com. For print copies, contact the AHEC Health Careers/Workforce Diversity Program in your area.
