How do you manage to stay balanced and healthy in spite of the busy med school schedule?

To stay balanced, I make sure to spend time with my family and girlfriend, and have kept involved with music.  The fact that the first year is pass/fail has greatly augmented my ability to commit to things outside of school.  To stay healthy, I try to eat well, and I bike to school (~3 miles) everyday.

What’s the most important piece of advice you would give to an incoming MS1?

Try to keep in mind why you’re in medical school while you’re stuck in the grind – it makes the workload a lot easier to deal with.

What is your favorite artery, organ, or nerve; and why?

The liver because it allows me to enjoy tasty beer.

Tell us one of your favorite memories from your first year of med school in the form of a haiku!

 Ah, spring is now here.
Love is in the air.  No, wait:
That’s preposterone.

Tell us your favorite joke.

A potassium atom runs up to his sodium atom friend, frantic with worry, and shouts, “I’ve lost an electron!”  The sodium asks him, “Are you sure?” to which the potassium atom replies, “I’m positive!”

If you could be any element on the periodic table which would you be and why?

I’d be calcium, so that your heart would beat because of me.
