How do you manage to stay balanced and healthy in spite of the busy med school schedule? I have a wife and small child (11 month old) that assist me in keeping perspective about priorities in life. I treat school like an 8-5 job (with occasional overtime) and make it a point to spend time with my family. I go to the gym 2-3 days a week and try to play racquetball at least weekly. This gives me the opportunity to get to know my classmates outside of class. I attempt to eat healthy, limiting myself to 1 trip to the Tar Heal Café for a big breakfast per week. What’s the most important piece of advice you would give to an incoming MS1? Know and acknowledge your weaknesses, then find someone whose strengths are your weaknesses and study with them. What is your favorite artery, organ, or nerve; and why? Anything involving the word ‘splanchnic,’ just because it’s fun to say.
