Mission The
mission of the American Geriatrics Society - UNC-CH Student Chapter is to
interest physicians-in-training in the field of geriatrics, to enhance the
visibility of geriatric medicine at the UNC School of Medicine, and to provide
educational programs on geriatric medicine. The chapter aims to educate all
medical students in relevant aspects of aging, especially those who do not
specifically plan to enter the field of geriatrics. For those students specifically
interested in geriatrics, the chapter seeks to develop leadership skills in geriatric
medicine by sponsoring interdisciplinary programs, encouraging research participation,
and creating geriatric-related community service opportunities. Community Service
This year we hope to expand our activities and get more involved in the communities in which we live and plan to practice medicine. Our focus will be on sponsoring information sessions at local senior centers. Collaboration We plan to become more tightly connected to existing organizations at UNC that promote education, service, and study of geriatric populations. This will include the Program on Aging, as well as the fellowship program in geriatrics.Funding for the activities of the UNC-CH Chapter of the AGS are provided by the Whitehead Society .
