Awareness of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault

 

2002-2003 Activities:

Ø    August 26, 2002- “Domestic Violence Screening and Interventions in Healthcare Settings”, a presentation by Dr. Jill Silverman, Medical Director of the Beacon Program

Ø    October 28-November 1, 2002- ADViSA’s Domestic Violence Awareness Week: 

o      October 29- Survivor panel from UCare, a domestic violence support agency in Sanford, NC

o      October 30- Melissa Radcliff, Community Services Coordinator for Family Violence Prevention Center spoke to health affairs students about what it means to be a victim of domestic violence.

o      October 31- “Signs, Symptoms, and Sequelae of Strangulation”, a presentation by Kit Gruelle and Dr. Jill Silverman

Ø    December 9-20, 2002- Supply drive benefiting Durham Crisis Response Center

Ø    January 24, 2003- ICM’s Hidden Topics Day #1:  Domestic Violence Day at UNC School of Medicine

Ø    March 17-28, 2003- Clothing drive to benefit Chatham County Women’s Shelter (co-sponsored with AMWA)

Ø    March 31-April 4, 2003- Sexual Assualt Awareness Week

o      Green Ribbon Campaign

o      April 1- Orange County Rape Crisis Center

o      April 2- Presentation by Dr. David Grimes on emergency contraception (co-sponsored with Medical Students for Choice)

Ø    April 5- Race for Women’s Health to benefit the Beacon Program at UNC Hospitals (co-sponsored with AMWA and UNC Surgery Interest Group)

Ø    April 26 & 27- ADViSA’s Domestic Violence Symposium
