Mission:

The Ophthalmology Interest Group (OIG) is a student organization founded in 2002 for the purpose of educating students about the field of ophthalmology.  The group provides information about ophthalmology as a career, can facilitate research opportunities for interested students, and offers opportunities to interact with faculty and residents.
         

Meetings:

The organization will hold meetings at lunch and occasionally in the evening. Topics will include ophthalmology as a career, question and answer sessions with current residents and 4th-year students entering the field, and other topics of interest. Teaching sessions may be arranged if there is sufficient interest. Specific dates will be announced as the year progresses.

Dr. Amy Fowler, the Coordinator of Ophthalmology Education for Medical Students, is the director of the ophthalmology component of the Neuroscience Block.  She also coordinates ophthalmology electives.  Please email questions regarding ophthalmology-related coursework to afowler@med.unc.edu.
