Building Homes for Healthier Lives

Volunteer Instructions

Arrival:
- If the weather is bad or there’s a threatening forecast, please call the construction update message line at 932-7077 x1 before coming to the site. For Saturdays, it’s updated by 7:30 a.m.
- Arrive on time: 8:00 a.m. for morning shift and 12:00 p.m. for afternoon shift.
- When you arrive at the worksite, please sign-in and make a nametag.
- Please be patient at the beginning of the shift, it takes a while to get everyone trained and working.

Safety:
- While working on the construction site, you must remember that it can be hazardous. Please work carefully and responsibly.
- The safety guidelines are covered at the beginning of each work shift. It is important to be on time for training.
- People under the age of 18 must have a signed Parental Waiver and cannot use power tools or climb on scaffolds.
- Work at your own risk. By signing-in, you are accepting the risk of working on the Habitat site and are covered by Habitat's supplemental insurance.

What to bring and wear:
- Wear work clothes or clothing you don't mind getting dirty.

- Wear boots or other comfortable closed-toed shoes (like running shoes). No sandals or flip-flops!
- Bring and wear sunscreen.

Tools:
- Habitat provides hand tools and a cloth nail apron, but if you have your own tools we recommend that you bring them. Mark them for identification. We prefer that you do not bring your own power tools.
- Handy tools to bring are:
Tool belt, hammer, tape measure, pencil, utility knife with retractable blade, gloves.

End of Work Shift:
- Help pick up trash and reorganize material on the site.
- Empty your nail apron: nails in their correct boxes, hand tools in the tool bins.
- Ask the supervisor if they need any more help.
- Sign out.

If you have any questions or would like to sign up for a shift, please call Laura at 932-7077.
