As a medical student, studying abroad can be an incredibly rewarding experience both professionally and personally.  Fortunately, most medical schools give their students enough latitude in their curriuclum to allow such an experience either after the first year during the summer months, during the third year for core clinical rotations, or during the fourth year as an elective.  Clinical experiences abroad can relatively easily be arranged and with enough planning, a source of funding can often be found to defray the costs associated with travel.   At UNC, clinical rotations abroad may be used as 4th year elective credit and in certain circumstances may be used as the 4th year ambulatory care-selective.  The experience of studying abroad as a medical student typically involves either a clinically-based experience, a language program, or some combination thereof.  The information below provides contact information for such experiences with brief descriptions.

Child Family Health International
This program offers medical students the opportunity to do clinical rotations abroad in a number of settings including Ecuador, Mexico, and India.  The experience may be combined with language study courses.
