Kevin M. FitzGerald, MPA

Kevin FitzGerald is the Chief of Staff to Bill Roper. In this role, Kevin assists Dean Roper in managing all activities of the UNC School of Medicine and the UNC Health Care System. Kevin is also responsible for interaction with North Carolina state government, including the General Assembly.

Prior to becoming Chief of Staff, Kevin served as the Vice Dean for Finance and Administration for the UNC School of Medicine. He joined the School of Medicine in May 2007 as the Executive Associate Dean for Finance and Administration.

Before joining Dean Roper’s staff, Kevin was Special Assistant to the Chancellor for State Government Relations. In conjunction with that position, he was the Director of the Center for Public Technologies at the UNC School of Government. Kevin teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in social entrepreneurship.

Prior to coming to UNC in 2000, Kevin served as Director of the North Carolina Division of Social Services. He had lead responsibility for managing significant policy and financing reforms.  Kevin also worked in a variety of local government positions, including Assistant County Manager, Budget Office Analyst, and Personnel Office Analyst in Forsyth County.

Kevin has an AB from the College of the Holy Cross and an MPA from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
