Marschall S. Runge, MD, PhD
Dr. Marschall S. Runge is Executive Dean for the UNC School of Medicine. In this role he assists UNC Dean and Health Care CEO Dr. William L. Roper in providing overall academic and clinical leadership for the School of Medicine and the UNC Health Care System, working in close partnership with Gary L. Park, president of UNC Hospitals and Dr. Allen Daugird, President of the faculty practice plan, UNC Physicians & Associates and many other School and HCS leaders. Dr. Runge is also Chair of the Department of Medicine. Dr. Runge is also Principal Investigator and Director of the North Carolina Translational and Clinical Sciences (NC TraCS) Institute at UNC-CH and has financial, human resource and strategic oversight responsibilities for this program. The NC TraCS Institute is one of 55 medical research institutions working together as a national consortium to improve the way biomedical research is conducted across the country. The consortium, funded through Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA), shares a common vision to reduce the time it takes for laboratory discoveries to become treatments for patients, and to engage communities in clinical research efforts. The CTSA program is led by the National Center for Research Resources, part of the National Institutes of Health.
