The UNC Medical Center News Office’s Media Relations staff identifies and promotes the achievements of UNC physicians and staff to local, state, national and international media. This includes cutting-edge findings in basic and clinical research, advances in patient care, and responses to timely news stories. We field inquiries from the media and serve as the liaison between UNC faculty and reporters.
Specifically, we provide the following services:
- Research and write news releases, tip sheets, and media advisories.
- Share news and promote expert sources through a variety of channels, including social media.
- Assist reporters in identifying and scheduling interviews with expert sources in the School of Medicine, UNC Hospitals, and UNC Health Care System administration.
- Provide guidance and prepare UNC faculty members for interactions with the media.
- Offer expert advice in planning media strategies for major journal publications, medical meetings and clinical advances.
- Escort media crews visiting UNC Hospitals for stories (reporters must be escorted at all times while on site).
- Serve as the clearinghouse for media inquiries on patient conditions and interview requests.
