Media Relations

If your goal is to get your program, clinical trial, presentation, or unusual human-interest story recognized by an external audience, contacting the media relations team is likely the route to go. With the right amount of lead-time, Public Affairs & Marketing can pitch your story to local, regional or national media outlets (includes print and broadcast media).

The Media Relations team in Public Affairs & Marketing assesses the “newsworthiness” of a story and pitch to media accordingly. The Media Team requires at least a week (five days) of advanced notice for presentations given at major conferences, or release of information about research study findings.

One of the public relations tools used by Public Affairs & Marketing is the news release. The target audience for a news release is typically the general interest news media and, ultimately, the general public. However, some news releases – such as those about basic scientific research – are targeted to a more specialized audience.

The Media Team also works to help facilitate media interviews. Whether you are looking to be interviewed or the media is looking for you, Public Affairs & Marketing is the first place to stop.

A member of Public Affairs & Marketing must escort all media at all times while visiting UNC Hospitals. We require at least 24 hours advanced notice for media escorts.

If you would like more information about the Media Team, contact Public Affairs & Marketing at (919) 966-3367.
