About the Committee
About CMPC
Curriculum Management Committee (CMC) The committee was composed of the chairs of the First/Second & Third/Fourth Year Course Director Committees, administrators, teaching faculty and student representatives from the Whitehead Curriculum Committee & student body. Responsiblilities included: initiating and implementing ideas for change; assessing, monitoring and allocating time and resources for courses; monitoring overall integration of the curriculum and ensuring integration across the years; monitoring specific departmental interests and ensuring that there is an appropriate forum for questions or concerns; and monitoring the overall quality of the curriculum and the curriculum management process. This committee fulfilled its charge through the 1990s. Towards the end of 2001, the committee structure was changed to allow for a smaller, decision-making policy committee (CMPC), informed by a larger advisory board (CAB).
The Curriculum Management and Policy Committee (CMPC) was created at the recommendation of the Leadership Task Force on the Outcomes of the Medical School Curriculum. It was designed to be a small steering committee that would meet frequently and make final decisions on curriculum management and policy. CMPC coordinates the curriculum across the four year continuum. The Committee is chaired by the Executive Associate Dean for Medical Education. Members are chairs of the course directors' committees and associate deans for admissions, student affairs, and educational development.
The Curriculum Advisory Board is advisory to CMPC. Chaired by the Executive Associate Dean for Medical Education, it has representatives of all constituencies responsible for the educational program for the MD degree. Members include CMPC, chairs of the promotions and appeals committees and other advisory committees and task forces. Currently these are: Whitehead Curriculum Committee (delegated by the student government), Faculty Advisory Committee on Educational Technology, Integration Subcommittee, and Student Assessment Task Force. Also included are directors of across-year content areas and courses, representatives of the Health Sciences Library, the educational resource coordinator, and the director of the Educational Technology Group. |
