Cathy Nonas, MS, RD, is the Senior Advisor to the Bureau of Chronic Disease Prevention & Tobacco Control at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, which is home to many of NYC’s obesity prevention and tobacco control activities. In this role, she advises on matters of national and local policy and liases with numerous organizations and experts working to increase access to healthy foods, decrease access to unhealthy foods, and increase physical activity in NYC, including sugary drink policy, the largest farmers market incentive in the country and food standards for all City Agencies. She also serves on NIH Guidelines Committees, developing National obesity and lifestyle recommendations. Previously, she directed weight management programs of several institutions, including those at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center and North General Hospital. Ms. Nonas is a long standing member of the Obesity Society and has published extensively on the topic of nutrition, weight management, and diabetes. She lives in New York City.
