Chapel Hill and Carrboro contribute to pink explosion

CHAPEL HILL, NC — UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center announced today that the annual Tickled Pink Event, held each October to raise funds for UNC’s Comprehensive Cancer Support Program, has exploded.

“We can no longer contain the spirit of our amazing volunteers and community supporters and limit the celebration to just one day, so we had to take drastic action,” said UNC Lineberger’s Mary Seagroves.

According to Seagroves, pink-themed events and benefits are popping up all over town, sometimes in the least expected places! So many people have been touched by cancer that October, best known as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, has become a time to show our support for all cancer patients and their families.

Community members and volunteers who want to support patients at the world-class, hometown N.C. Cancer Hospital have multiple options, including:

• Attending the Turn the Town Pink Kick-off, Friday, October 1, 5-8 p.m. at the Carolina Inn. Join us for a very special Fridays on the Front Porch;
• Patronizing Tickled Pink’s Community Partners — businesses in the Triangle who run a special promotion to benefit UNC Lineberger in October. From signature drinks to a percentage of proceeds on pink items to creative window displays and seasonal décor, community businesses step up to support patients and families in our community who have been affected by cancer;
• Throwing your own pink-themed party to benefit UNC Lineberger — all month long we’ll be sharing pink-themed party tips. Volunteers and supporters across the Triangle will be hosting their friends at pink-themed events! From sit-down dinners to downtown desserts, cocktails to backyard barbecues, “ladies who lunch” to a laid-back luau, turn your tailgate pink before a home game or invite your friends to a margaritaville Monday – each guest gives a suggested donation of $50, with proceeds helping patients and families through the UNC Comprehensive Cancer Support Program;
• Coming out to Top of the Hill for Tickled Pink at Twilight on Thursday, October 28, 6-9 p.m. for a fun event and silent auction, overlooking downtown Chapel Hill.

Traditionally, Tickled Pink has included a sold-out luncheon at Kenan Stadium’s Pope Box and Tickled Pink at Twilight. With the renovation of the Pope Box, there wasn’t a venue that could contain the enthusiasm of the volunteers and supporters who have made these events a success for the past 7 years, raising more than $370,000 for patient support programs.

“We are looking forward to seeing the amazing creativity that goes into this event this year bust out all over Chapel Hill and Carrboro as our talented community members take their pink enthusiasm on the road or into their homes in support of our patient programs at UNC Lineberger and the N.C. Cancer Hospital,” Seagroves added.
